Overview – CV – Exhibitions
Jesús Hernández Verano (Tenerife, 1970). After beginning his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, he graduated in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Cuenca. His work is grounded in sculpture, drawing, and installation, where various personal interests converge as a program resolved through different media. It is a quest —which is also a form of resistance— in which he conceives artistic practice as a relational practice. From that understanding, he models, tests, and discovers ways of bearing witness. There is a symptom, something to be deciphered that manifests as a disturbance, prompting an excavation into the inert thickness of a mental matter. The kind of emotionality his works emit reveals connections between language, desire, body, and absence.
From his first solo exhibition at the Sala de Arte Joven of the Community of Madrid to his most recent one, last April, at TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, he has been working and exhibiting for over twenty-five years in cities such as Valencia, Berlin, Paris, and New York, among others. His pieces not only invite contemplation but also assume, as a corporeal part of their being, the opening of spaces for introspection. His work is included in public collections such as INJUVE, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Madrid), the Tenerife Island Photography Centre (Cabildo de Tenerife), TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Cabildo de Tenerife), the Antonio P. Martín Collection (Gran Canaria), and numerous private collections.
